Hits galore in story of songwriting legend
The show really benefitted from the larger auditorium of the Bristol Hippodrome
Beautiful now, at the Bristol Hippodrome, is a musical tour of Carole King’s life. An American singer-songwriter legend, her classics such as “You’ve got a friend” have been covered by numerous artists and who can forget Arethra Franklin singing “You make me feel like a natural woman” but did you know she also wrote ‘The Loco-Motion?’
Daisy Wood -Davis (who you may remember as Kim Butterfield from Hollyoaks) led the cast and her portrayal of the young Carole King as a teenage mum in a turbulent relationship with Gerry Goffin (played by Adam Gillan) vividly demonstrated her vulnerability
On the night we attended the part of Cynthia Weil (she wrote ‘On Broadway’ with her husband Barry Mann) was played by Carly Cook who superbly demonstrated Cynthia’s strength of character.
As fans of Carole King’s music we had first seen the show in the West End and were interested to see if the touring version would match up - we weren’t disappointed! The show really benefitted from the larger auditorium of the Bristol Hippodrome and the fabulous music left us singing all the way home………. “Will you still love me tomorrow?”
